About me
I have been engaged in disability advocacy work for most of my life, from volunteering in middle and high school in special education classrooms, to providing respite care for families through college, through being part of grass roots advocacy work. I co-authored a book on disability, Disabling Leadership: A practical theology for the Broken Body of Christ (IVP Academic 2023) which has opened the door for me to speak at conferences and on podcast about disability in many facets. I began working as an instructional aid and substitute in December of 2019 once all of my children were in school, and went back to school myself in August of 2021. I graduated in December of 2024 with a degree in special education: intense intervention. I've been in my classroom since November of 2024.However, my most important role has been parenting my own children with disabilities. All three of my children have much different diagnosis and degrees of support needs. All three had early intervention services, and now have an IEP. So for 18 years, I've sat on the parent side of the table including an experience with a child receiving education in a pediatric hospital environment.
