About me
Austin Rodgers is a middle school mathematics educator with an advanced academic background in mathematics and a longstanding interest in Middle Eastern history, art, and culture. His work focuses on helping students and teachers see mathematics not simply as a collection of procedures, but as a creative and deeply human way of understanding the world.Drawing on both classroom experience and prior conference presentations, Austin explores how historical and artistic contexts can make mathematical ideas more accessible, memorable, and joyful. His proposed session uses the architecture and ornamentation of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, as a formative example of the relationship between mathematics, beauty, culture, and human creativity. He is especially interested in providing educators with practical ways to bring wonder, curiosity, and meaningful mathematical exploration into the middle school classroom.
